Tips for couples
If your idea of a couple’s getaway is mixing active recreation with relaxation, Lake Achensee is the place to be. Whether you opt for skinning uphill, snowshoeing through remote valleys, exploring the region on cleared winter walks, or cross-country skiing on expertly groomed trails: The Achensee region offers unique outdoor experiences for every kind of couple.
Ski tour to the Stuhljöchl (2,157 m)
The tour starts just off the car park of the Adventure Park Achensee. From there, the route leads into the forest, continues over the forest road to the Kotalm Niederleger (1,260m), then via the summer hiking path to the Kotalm Mittelleger (1,608m) and through a wide depression in a south-easterly direction. The route climbs over a steep section in a north-easterly direction to the Stuhljöchl. This challenging tour is perfect for couples who love getting a thrill from pushing themselves to their limits. Don’t forget to take regular breaks to catch your breath and to soak in stunning views of Lake Achensee.

Snowshoeing tour
From Steinberg to Achenkirch: Snowshoeing in unspoilt terrain is a wonderful experience for people looking to connect with nature. The Achensee region boasts a huge range of snowshoeing routes, and for your shared experience for two, we recommend a tour starting in Steinberg am Rofan. The quaint village is rightly known as the “most beautiful end of the world”. Enjoy the view of the Guffert, Steinberg’s backyard mountain, before climbing to the Schönjochalm (1,289 m). From there, continue to the Köglalm, at 1,428 metres the highest point of the tour, and soak in gorgeous views of Lake Achensee and the Karwendel mountains. The route meanders downhill to Achenkirch. The two alpine huts are only serviced in summer.

Cross-country skiing
From Steinberg to Achenkirch: The Guffertloipe trail is groomed for classic and skate skiing and connects the two villages Achenkirch and Steinberg am Rofan. At 18 kilometres long, the scenic circular trail takes skiers through remote stretches of countryside alongside streams, through forests and across broad plains. This 3-hour tour is moderately difficult and lets you de-stress in the calm and quiet of unspoilt nature.

Winter hike & wildlife watching
From Achenkirch to the Oberautal and Unterautal: The cleared winter walks in the Oberautal and Unterautal valley are insider tips for romantics, especially in the secluded Unterautal. From the car park of the Christlum lifts, follow the trail and after only two kilometres, you have reached a spot where you will most likely see chamois. If you enjoy hiking in groups, join our ranger-guided tours, which occur Monday to Friday. Depending on the snow conditions, the tours will be on foot or on snowshoes.

Romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides
Horse-drawn sleigh rides are a classically romantic way to explore the winter wonderland, for example, the beautiful Karwendel valleys. Hop aboard, cuddle up beneath the warm blankets, and enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery. On request, a delicious picnic with original Tirolean delicacies can be provided.

Taking a spin on the ice rink
Couples take a spin holding hands: Ice skating is a wonderful winter experience and best enjoyed outdoors in nature beneath a backdrop of the snow-capped mountains.
