Unique encounters with wildlife and nature await!

Tips from the nature park rangers

Listen to the forest, stop in a clearing, and sharpen your senses for all the impressions that you usually fail to notice. Immerse yourself in the outdoors, and explore the nature surrounding Lake Achensee consciously. Remain still, listen, and connect with nature – a very rewarding experience!

Nestled between the two mountain ranges Rofan and Karwendel, Lake Achensee is known as an excellent hiking area, featuring rustic mountain huts and trails with beautiful vistas of the impressive peaks and the deep blue “Tirolean Sea”. A variety of marked and well-maintained hiking trails in all difficulty levels offer unique outdoor adventures where everyone will find their favourite summit. To enhance your enjoyment of the great outdoors, our nature park rangers share some tips on wildlife watching.

The landscape is teeming with wildlife, and the slower you move, the more you discover. Often, humans disturb the animals by entering the landscape. But when you stay in one place for a little while, remaining still, you can make stunning observations.

Pause to listen and suddenly you will hear plenty of birds calling. Let your gaze wander over the landscape and try to make out hidden movements that reveal the whereabouts of an animal. It is worthwhile to look closely, listen, smell, or feel.

When environments change significantly, for example, when a forest transitions to a meadow, you are suddenly in plain view, and this can frighten off animals. Rangers recommend that you stay put for a moment before stepping out of a forest. Your chances to spot wildlife increase.

Look up into the treetops, bend down to the ground or lie down, and completely new perspectives will open up. In addition, we often forget that the animals also observe us, and once we’re gone, they emerge from hiding. You often make great discoveries looking back slowly over your shoulder.
