station Maurach - summit cross Seekarlspitze

Summer stories with Emperor Maximilian I

In 2020, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Maurach Mountain Rescue Service, the brothers Raimund and Simon Walser finally realised a long-held plan. A summit cross made of stone was to be erected on the Seekarlspitze. A cross was made out of a 6,7-tonne granite block. A total of 700 working hours were spent on the production, foundation and transport. The cross has been standing at the summit since 22 July 2020. It is a sign of appreciation for those helpers who rescue victims from mountain distress, always risking their own lives in the process.

You can find another peculiarity on the Seekarspitze: Using a password chiselled into the stone you are able to write into a digital summit book.
