Mountain Bike Safari-Stage 11: Pertisau – Steinberg am Rofan

Trail description: From the gondola top terminal, the route follows a fairly level road to Bärenbadalm Alpine Pasture Hut. Here, the trail swoops down into Tristenautal Valley in wide hairpin turns. At the end of this valley, the descent continues northwards and eventually reaches the golf course of Pertisau. Ride down to the shores of Achensee Lake and follow the lakeside road to Maurach. Take the cycle path along the lake’s eastern shore until you get to the village of Achensee on the north shore. Cross L181 federal road at the village center and climb up the forest road which brings you to Köglalm Alpine Pasture Hut. From here, there are steep uphill sections to negotiate on a singletrack that takes you atop Kögljoch Col. On the other side of the col, a singletrack descent corkscrews down for 500 meters before turning onto a forest road for the final and fast descent to Steinberg am Rofan.
