Eng Alm

Eng Alm

The unique landscape of the Eng can be accessed from Hinterriß via the Große Ahornboden. The rustic alpine village with its cosy huts lies at the end of the valley; it is open from the beginning of May to the end of September. The magnificent landscape of the Ahornboden developed from both natural and human influences. Agriculture in the area dates back to prehistoric times. Rare mosses, which are usually found only in China, grow on the sycamores. Bird and bat species threatened with extinction live in the trees. The area is surrounded by the impressive Karwendel mountains, whose rock faces tell a fascinating story of tropical seas and ice ages.
