Explore Tirol’s mountains on two wheels!

Tirol Mountain Bike Safari

The Tirol Mountain Bike Safari is a long-distance cycle ride that traverses the “heart of the Alps” over 780 kilometres and 32,000 metres of elevation. Three of the 16 stages take bikers through the Achensee region – uphill, downhill, and also through neighbouring Tirolean regions.

A couple explores the lakeshore in Maurach am Achensee by bike.
Stage 10/Mayrhofen-Pertisau
Assisted by tree cable car rides, this stage travels over 70 kilometres through the Zillertal valley up to Lake Achensee. Highlights of this tour are beautiful views from the Penkenjoch to the main Zillertal Alpine ridge, idyllic villages along the Zillertal Cycle Path, and finally the Achensee lakeside promenade leading from Maurach to Pertisau.

Stage 11/Pertisau-Steinberg
This 39-kilometre stage starts with a ride on the Karwendel cable car. On the top, stunning views of Lake Achensee await. The descent leads over wide curves into the Tristenautal valley, which offers magnificent views of the Karwendel. The route continues over the Kögljoch to the idyllic village Steinberg am Rofan, which is also called the "most beautiful end of the world".
About 10 kilometers from Lake Achensee and situated at 1,000 meters above sea level is the village of Steinberg am Rofan.
Stage 12/Steinberg-Alpbach
This 43-kilometre stage leads along the Steinberger and Brandenberger Ache rivers to Kramsach. The route continues to Reith im Alpbachtal, where the Reitherkogel cable car takes you up to an elevation of 1,200 metres. Follow the trail to the mountain pass Kerschbaumer Sattel and to the Hochlindalm, then descend to Alpbach, which was once named Europe’s most beautiful flower village.
