Culture, tradition & art at Lake Achensee
Throughout the year, the Achensee region offers visitors the opportunity to experience genuine Tirolean art, culture, and traditions alongside the local community. Festive highlights include lively autumn cattle drives, accompanied by music and cheerful gatherings. Open-air brass concerts and folk music events are regular features, with many locals wearing traditional dirndls and lederhosen. Winter brings Krampus runs and bustling Christmas markets, reflecting the vibrancy of local customs. Carnival is celebrated with colourful parades, while the summer solstice in June is marked by mountain bonfires, often arranged in religious symbols.
A unique aspect of the region’s cultural heritage is the legacy of St. Notburga, who lived in the 13th century and dedicated her life to helping the poor and vulnerable. Her life and work are commemorated at the Notburga Museum in Eben, housed in one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings in Tirol. The area’s rich history is also reflected in its many churches and chapels, which can be explored with the brochure “Wiesinger Kirchen- und Kapellenweg” (Wiesing Church and Chapel Trail).
