Achensee Museum World
Originally designed as a home for old tractors, the museum today also collects and conserves a wide range of regional cultural heritage objects. The idea of a single museum has transformed into an expansive museum world sprawling over 8000m², showcasing the 'Traktoreum' with 80 vintage tractors and numerous objects related to local traditions and the daily life of people in the Achental’s past.
Another part of the exhibition area is dedicated to associations that play a significant role in the Achensee region, such as the volunteer fire brigade and the mountain rescue service. Other notable exhibits include the historical Achensee train and the stern of a 120-year-old Achensee steamship. The carpentry workshop demonstrates traditional woodworking techniques. Alongside a Christmas crib exhibition, the Achensee Museum Experience World also features a doll workshop where visitors can admire 500 handmade dolls.
Historical photography
Opened in July 2026, an impressive new photography exhibition has enriched the Achensee Museum World in Maurach am Achensee. Spanning eight exhibition rooms, the collection takes visitors on a journey through the evolution of photography, from early pioneer cameras to modern digital technology. Highlights include a faithfully recreated photo studio from around 1890 and one of the most extensive photography collections in Europe. The exhibition is a fascinating experience for photography enthusiasts, technology buffs, and history lovers alike.
