Die Alpenüberquerung (stage 2: Wildbad Kreuth - Achenkirch)

This cross-border hiking stage links the Bavarian Prealps with the Achensee holiday region and is one of the scenic highlights of the route from Tegernsee to Sterzing. From historic Wildbad Kreuth, the trail first climbs through shady mixed beech forests to Gaisalm. It then continues across alpine pastures and along a scenic mountain ridge, through mountain pine, to the border between Bavaria and Tirol. From here, there are impressive panoramic views of the Tegernsee valley, the Karwendel mountains and the Zillertal Alps.

After a stop at the traditional Blaubergalm mountain hut, the route descends through the former hunting grounds of the Habsburg emperors. Well-maintained mountain trails lead to Achenwald and finally to Achenkirch at Lake Achensee. This stage combines beautiful mountain scenery, cultural history and spectacular views, making it a memorable part of the Alpine crossing between Germany and Austria.
