Sunrise tour to the Astenau Alpe
Looking for a great way to start the day? Everyone has their own morning routine, but sometimes it's hard to get going. How about a mountain tour to kick-start your day? We recommend the sunrise hike to the Astenau Alpe (1,483m) in the stunning Rofan mountains.
With your gear packed and headlamp on, you'll set off early in the morning. The trail starts in Eben am Achensee and winds up a steep path, offering gorgeous views of the Tirolean Inntal valley as you make your way through the trees. At the top, you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of the sun slowly rising, casting a warm golden glow over the landscape. This awe-inspiring moment will leave you feeling happy, refreshed, and probably quite hungry. Then it’s time for a hearty mountain breakfast at the Astenau Alpe (1,483m), where you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Karwendel, the Kaiser mountains, the Zillertal Alps, the Stubai Glacier, and the Inntal valley.

Good to know
- Dates: Sunrise hiking tours take place every Wednesday from 4 June to 29 October 2025. The start time depends on the sunrise, usually between 3.30 and 5.30, and will be confirmed when you book. For more information, contact the local information office or check when you book.
- Duration: ca. 4 hours (about 3 hours walking).
- Cost: Free for all visitors with a valid AchenseeCard. If you don’t have an AchenseeCard, the fee is EUR 29 per person. Please note that breakfast is not included in the price.
- Registration & group size: Tours must be booked in advance to guarantee participation. Please register online at the Achensee experience shop by 18.00 the day before the tour. Maximum group size: 15 persons.
- Meeting point: Pay parking lot at Notburgaheim, just above the St. Notburga residential and nursing home.
- Packing list & requirements: You’ll need a torch or headlamp (a mobile phone flashlight won’t do), sturdy ankle-high hiking boots, and weather appropriate clothing. This is a moderately challenging guided hike, so you'll need to be sure-footed and in good physical shape.
