Running around Tirol's largest lake!

Achensee Run

Turquoise-blue water backdropped by spectacular mountains: The international Achensee Run is rightly considered one of the most scenic running events in Austria. On 07 September 2025, the traditional race invites running enthusiasts to circumnavigate Tirol’s largest lake. At 23.0 kilometres the run is longer than a half-marathon.

Lake Achensee is nestled in the stunning mountain scenery of the Karwendel and Rofan mountains.

The route

The Achensee Run offers a challenge for both solo runners and two-person relay teams. The race features two distinct stages: a longer 14.5-kilometre stage, primarily on flat gravel and asphalt, and a shorter, more demanding 8.5-kilometre stage that climbs over 208 metres of elevation on challenging trails. Relay changeovers occur in Achenkirch in front of the refreshment station near the Gasthof Fischerwirt. For detailed route information, visit our interactive map at maps.achensee.com or the official Achensee Run website.

A highlight of the race is a scenic nine-kilometre trail section that runs alongside the lake, where the water shimmers in captivating shades, transitioning from aquamarine to a stunning Caribbean turquoise at the southern shore. The Achenseehof pier marks the halfway point of this segment. From here, the course transforms into a true trail, requiring runners to navigate roots, rocks, and steps as they ascend towards the Gaisalm. There, a refreshment station awaits, allowing runners to refuel while taking in breathtaking panoramic views of the lake before tackling the remainder of the course.

Top events such as the running camps and Achensee Run make the Achensee region a desirable destination for runners.
