Sustainability through resource-efficient operations
From the planning stage to day-to-day operations, the Atoll Achensee applies various measures to ensure the efficient use of energy, water, and other resources. This approach spans every area of the facility, including energy supply, building services, and outdoor lighting.
- The Atoll Achensee brings together the Panorama-BAD, the See-BAD, the Penthouse-SPA, the Lakeside-GYM, the BOULDER-Halle, and the Lagoon Restaurant under one roof. To supply these diverse areas, an integrated energy concept relies on heat pumps, deep wells, and solar power.
- Heating and cooling for the facility are powered by heat pumps and deep-well water. In addition, a rooftop photovoltaic system comprising 480 solar panels generates a portion of the required electricity. In winter, waste heat from the artificial ice rink is recovered and repurposed for building heating.
- Water drawn from the deep wells is returned to Lake Achensee following thermal energy transfer.
- Further technical measures target water and power efficiency across daily operations. These include automated lighting and water controls, as well as heat recovery systems in the kitchens and cold storage facilities to maximize the use of existing energy.
- Sustainability also extends to the interior design and day-to-day amenities. Natural materials feature prominently throughout the building. Cleaning and water treatment agents are supplied in reusable containers and used in accordance with requirements. In the food and beverage areas, reusable containers are also predominantly used for drinks.
- For visitors arriving without a car, there is a public bus stop directly in front of the Atoll Achensee. Charging points are available for electric vehicles, alongside parking spaces for 150 bicycles.
Outdoor areas and lighting
- Various sustainable measures were incorporated into the design and upkeep of the outdoor grounds. As part of a pilot project with the Tyrolean Environmental Ombudsman’s Office, green spaces were planted with perennials that bloom over multiple years, removing the need for annual replanting.
- The lighting concept follows the criteria of the “Helle Not” initiative, specifically designed to curb light pollution.
- Another example of repurposing existing materials is the former Lake Achensee ship “St. Benedikt”. Rather than being scrapped, it now serves as a play boat in the outdoor area of the Atoll Achensee.
These measures are integrated into the daily operations and technical infrastructure at Atoll Achensee. The resulting savings and specific impacts depend on actual usage and operating conditions.
