Four stages and spectacular summits!

Long-distance hike Rofan tour

The Rofan mountains are a very popular destination for hikers, and the impressive rock walls also entice climbers to vertical adventures. Famous Tirolean mountaineering pioneers have climbed in the Rofan mountains, among them Mathias Rebitsch and Peter Habeler. The Rofan tour is a demanding multi-day hike which lets you discover a large part of the Rofan mountain range in four stages. You will be surrounded by an impressive mountain world, with the deep blue Lake Achensee coming into view time and again. One thing is certain: On this tour, you will make memories that last a lifetime.

Stage 1
This stage starts with an easy section that leads from the valley station of the Rofan cable car in Maurach to the Erfurter Hütte (1,834m). Alternatively, you can ride up the mountain in the Rofan cable car. From the top, you can enjoy beautiful views.
Stage 2 - Scenic route
This stage has 9.4 kilometres and is moderately difficult (red). The scenic route leads from the Erfurter Hütte to the Bayreuther Hütte (1,576m). Hikers will be rewarded with gorgeous views of Lake Achensee and its surrounding villages.
Stage 2 - Summit route
This route leads from the Erfurter Hütte to the Bayreuther Hütte. The 8.7-kilometre black (difficult) tour affords stunning views. Take sufficient supplies of food and drink with you, as there are no mountain huts to stop by. Bringing a via ferrata set is a practical option.
Stage 3
Fortified by a hearty breakfast you’re ready for the longest stage. The 11.9-kilometre stretch takes you to the Dalfaz Alm (1,692m), and you will also walk past the Zireiner lake. According to legend, its water contains gold, and poor souls swim in the lake waiting for salvation.
Stage 4
The last stage takes you on a rocky path along the Durrawand to the Durraalm. Then the route travels back to the valley station of the Rofan cable car, the finish of this fantastic long-distance hiking tour which is an experience guaranteed to leave you blissfully happy!

The tours require experience in alpine terrain, sure-footedness, a head for heights and good tour planning/preparation. We also recommend taking a via ferrata set, which is a practical option. Click here and read our tips for staying safe while hiking!
