Karwendelhaus
Located in the heart of the Nature Park Karwendel, the iconic Karwendelhaus has stood here since 1908. At 1,765 metres above sea level, it is one of the main bases for long hiking and (e-)bike tours in the vast Karwendel Mountains. Guests are served in the traditional dining room, which is over 100 years old, or on the sun terrace with wide mountain views.
During the summer months, overnight stays are possible at this family-friendly mountain hut. It is a starting point for summit tours, climbing routes and multi-day Karwendel traverses. The demanding and long hike to the Birkkarspitze (2,749 metres), the highest peak in the Karwendel, takes around three hours from the Karwendelhaus. Repair and charging facilities are available for (e-)bikes; a personal charger must be brought along.
Accommodation
The Karwendelhaus offers comfortable rooms and traditional dormitory beds for up to 180 guests, providing high alpine accommodation. A seminar room for up to 18 people is available for groups and school classes. Half board can be booked on request, and reservation is also possible online. Guests arriving without the required sleeping bag liner can purchase one in the small equipment shop. Facilities include running water, showers, electricity and a telephone hotspot; hot water is available for a small fee. In winter, an unlocked emergency shelter is available.
