The Austrian feature film Elfi tells the story of Elfi and Sepp, two people with mental disabilities who fall in love in Austria at the end of the 1960s. Their desire for a shared family, however, is severely hindered by their environment as well as by authorities, the church, and welfare institutions. The film addresses the struggle for self-determination, love, and the right to a life of their own.
