Family fun on the Wusel Lake Trail
A trail named after the Achensee mascot? Yes, that’s right! Nestled along the scenic eastern shore of Lake Achensee, the Wusel Lake Trail is dedicated to Wusel, the water spirit. It invites families on a fun-filled adventure packed with clever puzzles and interactive stations right at the water's edge. Stations such as "Overgrown Shore", "Talented Surfers", and "Fresh Fish" share fascinating facts about Lake Achensee in a playful way. Solve the riddle, punch your Wusel postcard at each stop, and you can claim a special surprise waiting for you at the Achensee Welcome-CENTER in Maurach!
With 14 stations alongside plenty of idyllic spots for swimming and sunbathing, the trail offers entertainment for all ages. This flat, 3.8-kilometre route stretches from Maurach towards Achenkirch and has almost no elevation changes, making it perfect for families with children. Best of all, the Wusel Lake Trail is completely car-free, easy to navigate with strollers or pushchairs, and can be explored at your own pace on foot or by bike. The trail can be walked in either direction.
- Getting to the start: You can reach the start of the Wusel lake trail by taking the bus to the stop “Maurach am Achensee Prälatenhaus” or by parking directly at the Seeuferstraße car park. The Wusel lake trail begins about 50 metres past the water rescue station, just before the first station “Stranded Sea Fleet”.
- Where can you find trail information, postcards, and pencils?
You can pick up the Wusel postcards and find information boards at both starting points: at Camping Schwarzenau and at the start of the lakeside path in Maurach (near the station “Stranded Sea Fleet”). Once you have punched your card at all the stations, bring it to the Welcome-CENTER Achensee in Maurach to collect a special surprise. - Seasonal closures: Please note that from November onwards, the trail is no longer maintained, and the punching stations for the postcard puzzle are removed. Additionally, from around mid-December, the section between Hechenberg and the Scholastika shipping pier will be closed, except for a short section near Achenseehof.
