Magical Advent on and around Lake Achensee
No chance for Christmas spoilsports at Lake Achensee: The region offers various events on and around the lake, celebrating the Advent season in a contemplative and traditional way. The first Christmas markets will open on 23 November.
A pleasant scent of gingerbread, cinnamon and punch permeates the air at the quaint Mountain Advent at the Fischergut in Pertisau. There will be a varied programme in the lovingly decorated old barn. Outside, visitors can take a stroll among the Christmas trees in the life-size Advent wreath which has become the “symbol” of the festive market. This winter, there will be two “Silent Night” productions at the Fischergut on 15 and 22 December at 16.00. An absolute highlight during the Mountain Advent will be the live carving of the Achensee crib. Visitors can watch how the sculptor carves the life-size figures during the opening hours of the Mountain Advent.
Again this year, the Achenseeschiffahrt will host Christmas boat cruises (“Seeweihnacht”) on board the lovingly decorated Achensee ships. The festive cruises feature a Christmas market where visitors get to enjoy cookies, mulled wine and atmospheric Christmas music.
The historical Sixenhof in Achenkirch is a special place hosting the Tirolean Mountain Christmas. The centuries-old barn will be transformed into a nativity scene featuring life-size figures and real animals where visitors will be presented analpine version of the Christmas story. The admission fee also covers a visit of the 14 rooms of the local history museum, including one of the oldest nativity scenes of the Achental.
The Achensee Museum World also invites you to a contemplative Advent season – the gates of the Achensee Museum World are opened on 5 days in Advent. In addition to local handicrafts, there is a nativity scene exhibition with almost 40 different nativity scenes from all over the world.
