Achensee – Tips for Couples
Put on your skins in the morning and climb the mountain, soak in the view of the summit before descending through deep snow. Roam through remote valleys on a snowshoeing tour, enjoy the magic of winter on groomed hiking trails or on lonely cross-country ski runs. The Achensee region offers a multitude of outdoor experiences in unspoilt nature for both sporty visitors and connoisseurs.
… for ski tourers: The tour starts at the car park in front of the high rope course near Achenkirch. Follow the idyllic forest path to the right towards Kotalm. Passing a deer feeding station, you reach the Kotalm Niederleger (1,260 metres) and then the Mitterleger (1,608 metres). During the tour, several spots invite to take a breather, enjoying the magnificent view of the glistening Lake Achensee. The tour continues relatively level to the south-east and then climbs steeply to the Hochleger (1,800 metres). Continue over the treeless south-western slopes to the Kotalmjoch (2,157 m) where you will be rewarded with gorgeous views of the mighty climbing walls of the Klobenjoch. … for snowshoers: Setting out from Achenkirch in an easterly direction into the seclusion of the forest, you can follow the tracks of red deer. Behind the Cordial Hotel, the path meanders uphill through dense forest, while the vegetation becomes thinner and the view of Lake Achensee increasingly impressive. The Köglalm, at 1,431 metres the highest point of the tour, is a five kilometre hike. The tour continues over the Schönjochalm (1,289 metres) and to Steinberg am Rofan, the idyllic village with a population of 296 where you’re back in civilization. From here, you can travel back to Achenkirch by bus which is free with the AchenseeCard. Note: The two alpine pastures on the way are not serviced in winter, but there are plenty of vantage points for scenic stops. Click here to view the route on the interactive map.
… for cross-country skiers: The Guffertloipe trail connects the two villages of Achenkirch and Steinberg am Rofan and features both classic and skating-style tracks. The secluded loop is 18 km in length and takes skiers through remote stretches of countryside alongside streams, through forests and across broad plains. Three hours of tranquillity, nature and slowing down. Difficulty level: medium.
… for hikers: The cleared winter hiking paths to the Oberautal and Unterautal valley are insider tips for romantics. The tour to the Unterautal starts from the car park at the Christlum lifts. After two kilometres on the secluded trail you will reach a spot where chamois can be watched. Visitors who enjoy hiking in groups can join the region’s winter hiking programme. Depending on the snow conditions the tours will be on foot or on snowshoes. The price per person is EUR 15 including snowshoeing equipment.
… for romantics: A luxurious horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Karwendel valleys in Pertisau provides a special touch of romance. On the historic sleigh, lovers cuddle up beneath a genuine bearskin as they journey through the breathtaking mountain scenery. On request, a delicious picnic with original Tirolean delicacies will be provided.
