hiking programme at lake achensee
The Achensee holiday region boasts a huge network of marked and well-maintained hiking trails ranging easy strolls and family jaunts to challenging mountain tours. In addition, the region offers a hiking programme in the summer months, featuring a diverse range of tours for herb and nature enthusiasts, summiteers and pleasure hikers. From Monday to Friday, visitors can join free guided hikes in the Rofan and Karwendel mountains with their AchenseeCard (visitor card).
Those who enjoy being outdoors foraging for herbs can join the guided summer herb walks in Pertisau on Mondays. The guide will explain the herbs which grow along the way – tasting included. On Tuesday, tours meet for the panorama hike in Achenkirch. The route leads from the village center to the eagle’s nest, and after a short climb you will reach the panoramic steep track to the Zöhreralm with a fantastic view of the valley and lake.
Ranger-guided nature watch tours give visitors a deeper insight into the diverse wildlife of the Nature Park Karwendel. Every Wednesday from 17 May to 29 October, rangers conduct discovery tours to the Feilkopf where visitors learn interesting facts about the peculiarities of the local flora and fauna while keeping an eagle eye out with Swarovski binoculars. From 4 June to the beginning of July and in October, rangers take visitors to the Unterautal valley and up to the Moosenalm every Thursday, following the motto “where chamois meet marmots”.
The summit tours start either from the valley of mountain stations of the Karwendel or Rofan cable car. Tour destinations will be selected on weather and trail conditions and vary every week. The demanding full-day hikes provide interesting insights into the region’s flora and fauna.
Another highlight are the guided golden eagle hikes in the Nature Park Karwendel. Austria’s largest nature park has the highest population of golden eagles in the wild. Early risers can look forward to the sunrise hiking tours to the Astenaualm where a delicious mountain breakfast awaits. Those who prefer individual tours alone or with their loved ones can book tours with local hiking and mountain guides. For the very first time there is the possibility to experience a barefoot hike at the Achensee. The 1.5 hour tour leads through the untouched and idyllic Unterautal valley in Achenkirch. The experience is not so much about hiking but rather about perceiving, feeling, and touching natural resources: grass, earth, moss, stones, roots, and water.
