Fun and action for kids at Lake Achensee

At Lake Achensee family fun comes naturally. The region offers countless adventures and activities for children of all ages: sports, fun, action and outdoor experiences in and around the lake and on the mountains.

Children’s & youth programmes
The programmes occurs in the summer months from Monday to Friday, and are full of fun-packed adventures. Children between the ages of 4 to 10 years can take part in the children’s programme and explore the region supervised by trained childcare assistance. The programme includes versatile activities such as visiting a farm, and pony riding, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Achensee region also offers an action-packed youth programme for young guests between the ages of 10 to 16 years featuring Segway tours, stand-up paddleboarding, climbing, tubing, horse riding, hiking through a torrent and kayaking. All excursions all run by trained supervisors.

Family-friendly hiking
A special highlight for families is the panoramic circular walk which is conveniently accessible by the Karwendel cable car. Life-size animals and interesting information along the way make the trail a memorable experience for the whole family. The walk to the Bärenbadalm and back to the top station is an easy stroll and takes about 1.5 hours. With a little luck, visitors can also spot real animals such as hares, deer or chamois in their natural habitat. The opposite Rofan mountains are accessible by the cable car in Maurach. An absolute highlight for kids is the hike to the Dalfaz waterfall. A set of dry spare clothes is recommended. From the mountain station of the Rofan cable car a leisurely one-hour hike takes visitors to the rustic Dalfazalm. After a hearty snack at the old Sennhütte mountain hut, the trails descends to the valley to Maurach.

Children aged 10 years and over and with a minimum body height of 130 centimetres can fly like an eagle: The AIRROFAN Skyglider, located at the top station of the Rofan cable car, races from the Gschöllkopf (2,040m) 600 metres down into the depths at a speed of up to 80km/h. While intrepid adventurers whizz down the zipline, pleasure hikers stay on the top: On the summit of the Gschöllkopf sits the “Adlerhorst”, a giant viewing platform designed by the renowned Tirolean artist blacksmith Manfred Hörl. About 15 tons of metal were used to build this unique construction that resembles an eyrie.  The platform has a diameter of eight metres and the spectacular 360° panoramic view makes it a popular destination for hikers.
