Ortovox Safety Academy Climbing Course

On 28/29 July and on 15/16 September 2018, Bergsport Achensee offers climbing courses in cooperation with the Ortovox Safety Academy. You are an advanced climber able to negotiate grade 5 routes in the climbing hall or crag, looking to advance your skills in the alpine terrain and tackle multi-pitch routes? This Ortovox Safety Academy Climbing Course will teach you all necessary safety techniques and skills so that after the course you can manage well-secured multi-pitch routes on your own. During the two-day course you will learn the basics of how to tie in belays, abseiling, climbing commands and plenty of alpine know-how.

On 28/29 July and on 15/16 September 2018, the Naturhotel Alpenblick will become the headquarter for an action-packed and informative Safety Academy weekend at Lake Achensee.

Participants will explore the walls and rocks surrounding Tirol’s largest lake with support and tuition from certified mountain and ski guides from Bergsport Achensee. The Achensee region provides the requisite rocks, boasting 250 sports climbing routes in the Rofan and Karwendel mountains.

    What will participants learn during the course and from the Bergsport Achensee mountain guides?

    • Basic skills and knowledge in mountain climbing
    • Basic skills to negotiate easy alpine climbing routes in grade III and IV
  • Participation Requirements

    What are the participation requirements?

    • Basic skills of indoor or sports climbing
    • Basic knowledge of securing techniques and knots (figure 8, prusik, munter hitch)
    • Safe lead climbing skills on indoor climbing routes grade V
    • Sure-footedness in the approach area and adequate fitness level (access approx. 1-2 hours)

    Theory classes and hands-on practical classes including:

    • Knowledge of knots, material, securing routes
    • Route planning
    • Special features of alpine climbing
    • Use of topographic maps
    • Alpine dangers
    • How to tie in belays
    • Leading and seconding
    • Various climbing techniques in alpine rocky terrain
    • Abseiling
    • Environmental considerations
  • Participation & Fees

    The participation fee for the Safety Academy Climbing Course is EUR 259 per person.
    Minimum 4 participants, maximum number of participants is 10.

    Participation fee includes:

    • 1 overnight stay at the 3-star superior Hotel Naturhotel Alpenblick in Maurach
    • Half board (rich breakfast buffet, for dinner fresh salad buffet with dressings and baguette, starters, soup, choice of 3 main courses, dessert)
    • 2 days tuition from state certified mountain and ski guides from Bergsport Achensee
    • Rofan cable car round-trip
    • Wellness-relax area and swimming pool at Naturhotel Alpenblick
