Cross-country skiing at Lake Achensee
The Achensee region is one of the most popular and most significant Nordic skiing centres in Tirol. More than 200 kilometres of ski runs around Tirol’s largest lake provide unlimited cross-country skiing fun.
The topography of the terrain surrounding Lake Achensee – from gently undulating landscapes along the lakeshore to challenging routes in the Karwendel valleys – and the excellent infrastructure with separate tracks for classic and skating style guarantee skiing fun at the highest level.
A cleverly devised waymarked trail system, handy trail maps, an interactive map with detailed routes and GPS data plus a daily updated weather forecast and snow report complement the extensive offer. Modern snow-making systems cover about 40 kilometres of tracks, ensuring great conditions throughout the entire winter season.
Each of the five holiday villages is known far beyond the borders of Tirol for their special cross-country skiing offers.
Extensive additional offers
Pertisau has a designated practice trail where first time cross-country skiers can practice the technique in a safe environment. The region has seven cross country ski schools which provide professional lessons and support. The local authorities have also made every effort to provide barrier-free ski runs over the past few years, and today the communities of Pertisau, Maurach and Achenkirch provide specially designed adaptive cross-country ski runs for wheelchair users. Lake Achensee also offers a dog-friendly trail, where dog owners may bring their four-legged friends to roam through the snow.
